Description

NanoLumCat Ostrava Workshop: Revealing the Future of Light Transformation

Project: Experimental and theoretical studies of near-infrared-emitting and chiral carbon dot Luminophores, RRC/2023/00734.

When: 2 – 3 March 2026

Where: IT4Innovations National Supercomputing Center

NanoLumCat Ostrava 2026 is a 2-day international workshop focused on carbon dots and single-atom photocatalysis, highlighting their role in next-generation nanomaterials for renewable energy applications. Participants will explore synthesis, photophysical properties, and advanced applications of carbon dots and related photocatalytic systems, including photo(electro)catalysis for sustainable energy and environmental remediation. Building on previous editions under the Global Experts programme, the workshop provides a platform for in-depth scientific discussion, theoretical modeling, and networking with leading researchers in nanomaterials for sustainable development.

Confirmed speakers:

Prof. Andrey L. Rogach

Prof. Andrey L. Rogach is Yeung Kin Man Chair Professor of Photonics Materials and Founding Director of the Centre for Functional Photonics at City University of Hong Kong. He is internationally recognized for pioneering work on colloidal semiconductor and metal nanocrystals for energy-related optical applications, with over 550 publications and designation as a Highly Cited Researcher in materials science.

Organizers

Prof. Michal Otyepka

Prof. Michal Otyepka is Head of the Modelling for Nanotechnology Lab at IT4Innovations, VSB–TUO, and Head of the CATRIN-RCPTM research division at Palacký University in Olomouc. His research focuses on graphene derivatives, 2D materials, and carbon dots, combining advanced computational modeling with materials chemistry for applications in sensing, catalysis, and energy technologies.

Dr. Michal Langer

Dr. Michal Langer is a computational chemist specializing in the modeling of carbon-based nanomaterials, including carbon dots, graphene derivatives, and low-dimensional interfaces. His work centers on electronic structure, non-covalent interactions, and photoinduced charge and energy transfer processes relevant to catalysis and optoelectronic applications.
