Description

FijiFiji Hackathon – Parallelization and HPC will bring the world-wide Fiji community to Ostrava, Czech Republic, a post-mining region and emerging technological hub of Central Europe. The event will be focused on parallelization and held in a very attractive venue which is more than appropriate for this - the National Supercomputing Centre. The community will have full access to its two HPC clusters - Anselm and Salomon, proudly named after Ostrava's disused mines.

Fiji (Fiji Is Just ImageJ) is a popular software platform for image processing and its community has developed and made available numerous plugins for scientific audiences.

Hackathon is a coding spree, or if you want, a two-week brainstorming session where scientists with programming skills sit together and work in a low-distraction, high-energy environment to advance the software side of their research. Typically, results get accomplished much faster (read: days instead of weeks or months) than without hackathons, because the setting is ideal to discuss advanced ideas with similar-thinking scientists and ideas can sprout much faster. Sometimes, results are achieved that would not have been possible without a hackathon at all. It is also a social event where you will enjoy a lot of fun and make life-long memories. Fiji hackathons are organized regularly since 2007 (list of previous hackathons).

We would like to cordially invite programmers and advanced Fiji users, who would like to make use of parallelization for performance increase of their plugins.

This event is supported by the ERDF in the IT4Innovations national supercomputing center - path to exascale project (CZ.02.1.01/0.0/0.0/16_013/0001791) within the OPRDE.
