Description

The National Competence Center of the Czech Republic is inviting you to an event dedicated to LUMI.

The EuroHPC LUMI supercomputer, currently under deployment in Kajaani,  Finland, will be one of the world’s fastest computing systems with a performance of over 550 PFlop/s. The LUMI supercomputer is procured jointly by the EuroHPC Joint Undertaking and the LUMI consortium. IT4Innovations is one of the LUMI consortium members.

The exascale-ready supercomputing and data infrastructure at CSC’s data center in Kajaani will help position Europe as one of the world`s leaders in supercomputing. The computing power of this size is required in leading-edge research in a wide range of data- and computing-intensive fields as the importance of various data-driven methods in research, administration, and industry are constantly increasing.

With this new infrastructure, European researchers can access world-class computing resources, bringing a direct positive impact on European research in nearly all scientific disciplines. In practice, this allows researchers to make more calculations within a shorter period of time and study larger or more accurate models than ever before for cutting-edge research. These state-of-the-art computing resources will also lay grounds to carry out research in areas, which have previously been out of reach, increasing the possibilities for scientific breakthroughs with immense societal impact.

We are organizing a special event to introduce the LUMI supercomputer and to make the first early access call for pilot testing of this world’s unique infrastructure, which is exclusive to the consortium's member states.

Part of this event will also be introducing the Czech National Competence Center in HPC. IT4Innovations joined the EuroCC project which was kicked off by the EuroHPC JU in September and is now establishing the National HPC Competence Center in the Czech Republic. It will help share knowledge and expertise in HPC and implement supporting activities in this field focused on industry, academia, and public administration.

Program:

09:00 – 10:00 LUMI presentation, Branislav Jansik
10:00 – 10:15 Call for pilot projects in 2021, Branislav Jansík
10:15 – 10:45 Discussion about LUMI
10:45 – 11:15 Introduction of the Czech National Competence Center in HPC followed by discussion, Tomas Karasek

Branislav Jansík, Director of Supercomputing Services of IT4Innovations, will be guiding you throughout the event.

Tomas Karasek, Coordinator of the Czech NCC, will inform you about the Czech National Competence Center in HPC.
