Description

Annotation

Intel Software Development tools are used widely in HPC, like on IT4Innovations’ Salomon and Anselm clusters. The two day course covers both the latest state-of-the-art tools for creation, analysis and optimization of software as well as providing an update to the latest version of the product suite Intel® Parallel Studio XE 2017 (Cluster Edition). It explicitly addresses HPC and their users, being both developers as well as advanced users of scientific applications. Each day contains presentations and hands-on sessions where participants can apply and practice their gained knowledge with the tools.

Purpose of the course (benefits for the attendees)

Participants learn how to use the Intel Software Development tools being part of Intel® Parallel Studio XE 2017 (Cluster Edition). In addition, they learn about what is important for software development on Intel® architectures (Intel® Xeon® processors and Intel® Xeon Phi™ coprocessors). The most common analysis, tuning and optimization techniques are taught. Experienced users, knowing earlier versions of Intel® Parallel Studio XE already, will learn what’s new in the 2017 version. For the hands-on sessions, trainers provide small examples. However, participants are also asked to bring own examples* and apply the tools directly.

* If own examples are used, make sure they are small enough to be compiled easily and don’t require external dependencies. Ideally, provide extracted kernels from bigger applications to be optimized and analyzed. Also provide a way to validate the results of those.

About the tutor(s)

Klaus-Dieter Oertel and Georg Zitzlsberger work for Intel Deutschland GmbH (Germany) and are Technical Consulting Engineers for Intel® Software Development tools used throughout the HPC domain. They also supervise various Intel® Parallel Computing Centers across EMEA with the intent to modernize and optimize scientific applications.
